Version 5 Released!!

What we added:
  • New URL! Same structure as before, so /3/, /4/, etc are still available
  • Multi-point collision detection
  • Collisions make the player reappear at last checkpoint, rather than last "safe" tile
  • Initial checkpoint is the player spawn point
  • Fireboat pickups act as subsequent checkpoints
  • Sequential objectives: all fireboats must be collected before making it to the oil rig
  • Player can pause with the 'p' key
  • Added oil rig graphic
  • Added refined level from Jessica

What we missed:
  • Oil rig should appear on minimap once all fireboats are collected
  • No soundboard test page yet
  • Web hosting is migrated to Dreamhost, but SVN is not moved yet
  • Water tile assets

First Level Done!!!

Hey!!!
Our first level is DONE now, and we are so excited to let you try.
Feel free to leave comments!!

Here is the link: http://silo.cs.indiana.edu:8314/3/
Please notice that the game currently does not work on Firefox.

What we added:
  • Moving objects have inertia, i.e., powersliding boat!
  • Multiple shot types that get more powerful as you pick up powerups
  • Our first cheat code: just press = to power up. I added this since there are more levels of shots than there are fireboats on the map
  • Dangerous tiles are impassable
  • Hitting a dangerous tile places you back at a safe tile and freezes movement รก la Mario Kart
  • Buoys surround the level
  • Version scheme: the previous week's code is available at http://silo.cs.indiana.edu:8314/2/, this week's is http://silo.cs.indiana.edu:8314/3/, and we'll continue on in this fashion
  • The base URL without a version number contains whatever the latest version is in the repository
  • Patrick submitted a level, which I added at http://silo.cs.indiana.edu:8314/2/index2.html
  • Behavior after winning or losing should be less weird

What we missed:
  • Performance is actually worse, due to the inertia model
  • The game is still hosted on my site, due to continuing issues with the Greenland server
  • No new sounds, as we didn't know what to put where
  • The objective squares don't yet behave as specified in the wish list
  • Hitting a buoy removes a life, rather than just bouncing the player back in bounds

Team Member - Graphics/Audio

Blake Daniels
Graphics Engineer

I am currently a senior at Indiana University majoring in Studio Art.  I am focusing my studies on digital and computer art and I am pursuing a career in the entertainment industries.  I would be happy to work in any type of art creation within the game industry, however, my main goal is to create concept art for a game studio/company.  I am also considering any storyboard, graphic novel, or comic opportunities I may find.  My portfolio website is under construction and I am currently working to build decent artwork to show to potential employers.

You may contact me by e-mail: bkdaniel@indiana.edu or by cell:  812-454-1949

Jeremiah Trotter
Game Designer/Tester

I am a Telecommunication student studying at Indiana University. I own five Zelda shirts and am obsessed with girl pop. I cover just about every room I live in with Penguins, because they are my favorite animal.

The thing I love most about video games is their ability to comment on how our world works and operates. Just as literature, games are a powerful tool to interact and comment on the "real" world. Also, they are useful for being awesome.
I tend to say ridiculous things just because I think them. Sometimes its funny... sometimes its not. Sometimes you have to cope with failure. This is something I've learned. Knowledge is power.
I am level 121 in Phantasy Star Online. I have gotten a golden statue and have accumulated 1 million bells in Animal Crossing.
I enjoy climbing trees and Football. American Football because it is one of the only times when tackling is socially acceptable.
I'm also a writer. I write weird stuff, usually full of molten crazy. Where would we be without our eccentrics?

Jessica Wininger
Game Designer/Tester

I'm originally from Kokomo IN moved to Bloomington to go to Indiana University. I'm majoring in English and getting the Games Studeis certificate through the Telecommunications Department. When I do have spare time between school work and working on the MMO Londontown I do try and play video games. Some of my favorite games are: Ico, Shadow of Colossus, Legend of Zelda, Portal, Pikmin.

I love mixing music at home and enjoy almost every type of music. I hope to have a creative career in telecommunications, i.e. television, movies, music, or video games.

Production update!

Hello World!

The Hoosier Games team is finishing their second working sprint on Monday.  We've got some great things coming along so far.  It's really been a great experience for everyone learning what their specific jobs entail and how what they do impacts other team members.

Here is some concept level design by one of our game designers Nathan Finley.

Concept boat art created my our artist Blake Daniels.

Our designers are working to play test some paper prototypes of their levels.  We're looking forward to getting some great feedback this week.  Our art, audio, and UI team members are busy creating assets to give to our programmers to implement.

Go ahead and check out what we have so far online at http://silo.cs.indiana.edu:8314/   This is a rough prototype but we would love to hear your feedback!

You can get ahold of us at hoosiergames@gmail.com

Game on,

Lance Shirley

Our First Steps...

This is a production blog, where you can find all the information about our game "Disaster Relief". Today, the production crew has been divided into four specific groups: Production, Design/Testing, Art/Audio, and Programming. Our goal is to accomplish the game production in one semester.

The production blog will record the whole process of game making, and also the introduction of each group member.
